Worcester, MA --- Nicole Maglione (Charlton, MA) tallied
a pair of goals as host WPI knocked off previously undefeated
Worcester State 4-0 in non-conference field hockey action on
Tuesday afternoon. With the win, the Engineers improve to 6-1
on the season while the Lancers dip to 3-1.
Maglione got WPI into the scoring column in the eighth minute
when she tipped in a pass from
Heather Hassett
(Oxford, MA). The Crimson and Gray took a 2-0 advantage into
the locker room at halftime after Kelly Johnson (Buxton,
ME) successfully converted a penalty stroke at 26:12.
Maglione added to the WPI lead when she netted an unassisted
goal at 53:54. The Engineers closed out the scoring when
Sarah Tracy (Oakland, ME) netted her second goal of the year
off a feed from Katelyn Perkins (Auburn, ME).
WPI goalkeeper Betsy Ray (Simsbury, CT) made four saves
en route to earning her first career shutout. Sarah White
(Portland, ME) notched a key defensive save for the
Engineers.
Worcester State goalkeeper Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA)
turned away four shots while Jennifer Lyons (Norwood, MA)
was an offensive force for the Lancers, registering four shots
on the afternoon.
Both teams will return to action on Thursday with non-conference
games at 7pm. WPI will host Nichols while Worcester State
entertains Simmons.
