Worcester State Knocks Off Plymouth, 1-0

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College Lancers field hockey team defeated the visiting Panthers of Plymouth State University, 1-0, Tuesday evening on Worcester State’s Coughlin Field in Little East Conference field hockey action.  The win over Plymouth State was the first since a, 5-4, win during the 2003 regular season.  The victory improves the Lancers to 7-2 (5-1 LEC) on the season, while Plymouth State falls to 4-5 (2-4 LEC).

The lone goal of the game came midway through the second half when senior Jennifer Lyons (Norwood, MA) received a pass on a penalty corner and got off a quick pass to her left to a waiting Kara Walker (Templeton, MA) who knocked home the game winner with 15:19 remaining in the contest.

Plymouth State outshot the Lancers 10-3 in the first half but goalkeeper Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA) was able to hold them at bay stopping 6 shots in the half on her way to her third shutout of the season.

Plymouth State netminder Leah Curtain (Londonderry, NH) made 4 saves on the night for the Panthers.

Worcester State will return to action on Thursday when they host New England College in a non conference matchup.  Plymouth State will travel to Salem State on Saturday to take on the Lady Vikings.
