- The Worcester State College Lancers field hockey team
defeated the visiting Panthers of Plymouth State University,
1-0, Tuesday evening on Worcester State’s Coughlin Field in
Little East Conference field hockey action. The win over
Plymouth State was the first since a, 5-4, win during the
2003 regular season. The victory improves the Lancers to
7-2 (5-1 LEC) on the season, while Plymouth State falls to
4-5 (2-4 LEC).
The lone goal of the game came midway through
the second half when senior Jennifer Lyons (Norwood, MA)
received a pass on a penalty corner and got off a quick pass
to her left to a waiting Kara Walker (Templeton, MA)
who knocked home the game winner with 15:19 remaining in the
contest.
Plymouth State outshot the Lancers 10-3 in the first half
but goalkeeper Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA) was able
to hold them at bay stopping 6 shots in the half on her way
to her third shutout of the season.
Plymouth State netminder Leah Curtain (Londonderry, NH)
made 4 saves on the night for the Panthers.
Worcester State will return to action on Thursday when they
host New England College in a non conference matchup.
Plymouth State will travel to Salem State on Saturday to
take on the Lady Vikings.
