Worcester, MA
- The Worcester State College Lancers field hockey team got
their tenth victory of the year defeating the visiting Rams
of Framingham State College, 2-1, Saturday afternoon at
Worcester State’s Coughlin Field. Worcester State improves
to, 10-4 (6-2 Little East), while Framingham State drops to
5-8 (2-6 LEC).
Sophomore Ginelle Blais (Marlboro, MA)
got the Lancers on the board at the 20:38 mark knocking home
a pass from sophomore Megan Rosborough (Uxbridge, MA)
off of a Lancer penalty corner. Worcester State unleashed 9
shots on goal in the half as Framingham State keeper
Lindsay McKearney (N. Attleboro, MA) was able to keep
the Lancers off the board for the rest of the half keeping
the score at the break at, 1-0.
Just 1:20 into the second half, Worcester
State got what would prove to be the difference maker when
junior Colleen Flynn (Arlington, MA) converted a pass
from senior midfielder Mary Lemelin (Colrain, MA)
giving Worcester State a, 2-0, advantage.
Framingham cut the lead in half with just
under ten minutes to play when freshman forward Katie
Wotherspoon (Stafford, CT) beat the Worcester State
keeper off of a feed from fellow freshman
Brianna Calello (Saugus, MA).
Lancer goaltender Erin MacDonald (Dedham,
MA) stopped 8 saves in getting her tenth win of the
season, while McKearney finished the day with 13 stops.
Worcester State will be back in action on
Wednesday when they travel to Western Connecticut.
Framingham State will travel to Southern Maine on Wednesday.
