Worcester, MA
– In a contest that resumed after being suspended due to a
power failure back on September 14th, the Clark
University Cougars held off the Worcester State Lancers,
2-1, Thursday evening at Worcester State’s Coughlin Field.
The game was restarted with 25 minutes remaining in the
first half with Clark leading, 1-0.
Clark arrived to Worcester State with the,
1-0, lead thanks to a goal off a penalty corner by senior
Ginny Mike (Franconia, NH) who converted a pass from
Carley Corkum (Newbury, MA).
It looked as if that was going to be all the
scoring in the game as Clark carried much of the play this
evening but with 8:32 remaining senior Ann Clark
(Worcester, MA) drew a penalty and the Lancers were
awarded a penalty stroke which co-captain Jennifer Lyons
(Norwood, MA) converted to knot the game at, 1-1.
Clark prevented an overtime session when
forward Lauren Blake (Oakland, MA) tipped home a
blast from Mike on a penalty corner play to send the
visitors home with the, 2-1 victory.
Goaltender Erin MacDonald (Dedham, MA)
made 4 saves for Worcester State. Clark University keeper
Kaitlin Kelley Guilford, CT) stopped 8 Lancer shots.
Worcester State falls to 9-4 with the loss, while the
Cougars improve to 3-9.
Worcester State will be back in action on
Saturday when the host the Rams of Framingham State
College. Clark will host Mount Holyoke Saturday afternoon.
