WSC Defeats UMass-Dartmouth, 3-0 For Release: 9/23/03 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 1st Half 2nd Half Final Worcester State College (2-2) 1 2 3 UMass-Dartmouth (0-6) 0 0 0 Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College field hockey team defeated the Corsairs of UMass-Dartmouth 3-0 on the rain-soaked turf of John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.The Lancers took a 1-0 lead when Christen Watt (Hubbardston, MA), the reigning MASCAC Player of the Year, beat the UMass-Dartmouth keeper with 3:54 remaining in the first half. Worcester State took the 1-0 lead into the second half where they continued to carry play in their offensive end. Freshman Ashley Bonina (Marlboro, MA) tallied the Lancers second goal of the game 6 minutes into the second half to give the Lancers solid control of the contest. Watt notched her second goal of the game with 7:48 minutes remaining to give WSC the 3-0 victory. The win improves the Lancers to 2-2 on the season while the loss drops the Corsairs to 0-6. WSC goaltender Alisha Bates (Palmer) earned her second shutout of the year. The Worcester State field hockey team will return to action on Thursday when they travel to Simmons College to take on the Sharks at 7:00 pm.
