Worcester State Defeats Nichols, 3-1

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College field hockey team defeated the Bison of Nichols College, 3-1, on the turf of John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College Thursday evening.

The two teams battled to a scoreless tie in the first half of play. The Lancers jumped out quickly in the second half scoring 2 goals in the first 8 minutes of play. The first came from senior Christen Watt (Hubbardston) on a feed from Angela Notaro (Clinton). Worcester State took the 2-0 lead when Andrea McAllister (Leominster) found the back of the net off of a pass from freshman Jennifer Lyons (Norwood).

Nichols jumped back into the contest when Jennifer Reagan (Swampscott) beat the Lancers keeper to bring the Bison to within one score. Watt put the game out of reach a few minutes later as she notched her second tally of the game off of an assist from Ann Clark (Worcester).

The win improves the Lancers to 5-4 on the season while the loss drops the Bison to 4-7.

WSC goaltender Alisha Bates (Palmer) made one save in net for the Lancers while her counterpart Kellie Fitzgerald (Latham, NY) made 3 saves for Nichols College.

The Worcester State field hockey team will return to action on Saturday morning when they host the Rams of Framingham State. Nichols will travel to face Gordon College.
