Worcester, MA - In a game originally scheduled to be played at Eastern Connecticut, the Worcester State College field hockey team defeated Little East Conference foe Eastern Connecticut by the score of , 3-1, on the turf of John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.

The two teams played to a scoreless tie through the first half as both teams had scoring opportunities in an up and down half of play.

Eastern Connecticut got on the board first with 25:03 remaining in the second half on a goal from Cate Morrill (Higganum) on a feed from Amber Drake (Pawkatuc). Less than two minutes later the Lancers evened the score when Ashley Bonina (Marlboro) took a feed from Angela Notaro (Clinton) and knocked it by the E. Connecticut keeper.

With 19:08 remaining in the game, Bonina tallied her second of the game which proved to be the game-winner. Sophomore Andrea McAllister (Leominster) added a third goal for Worcester State off an assist from senior Christen Watt (Hubbardston).

The win improves the Lancers to 7-5 on the season while the loss drops Eastern Connecticut to 3-10.

WSC goaltender Alisha Bates (Palmer) made one save in net for the Lancers while her counterparts for E. Connecticut combined for 10 saves.

The Worcester State field hockey team will return to action on Saturday when they host Keene State College. Eastern Connecticut will travel to Plymouth State on Saturday afternoon.
