Worcester State Loses to Keene State, 4-1 For Immediate Release: 10/18/03 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 1st Half 2nd Half Final Worcester State College (7-6) 1 0 1 Keene State (11-5) 1 3 4 Worcester, MA - The Worcester State College field hockey team lost to Little East Conference opponent Keene State by the score of, 4-1, Saturday morning on the turf of John Coughlin Memorial Field on the campus of Worcester State College.WSC opened the scoring with 24:05 remaining in the first half on a goal by sophomore forward Andrea McAllister (Leominster, MA). The Owls of Keene State evened the contest at one apiece with 17:45 remaining on an unassisted goal by Kate Barnowski (Granville, MA). The first half ended with the score tied 1-1. Keene State took control in the second half as Worcester State was unable to get anything going offensively. The Owls scored 3 times within a 9 minute period to cruise to the victory. Off of a penalty corner with 23:39 remaining in the second half, Barnowski scored her second goal of the game on a feed from sophomore midfielder Michelle McInerney (Hampton, NH). Five minutes later, on another penalty corner, McInerney found the back of the net off of a pass from Nicole Lemire (New Milford, CT). The Owls finished off the scoring with an unassisted goal from Nichole Garneau (Twin Mountain, NH) for a 4-1 final. The loss drops the Lancers to 7-6 on the season while the win improves Keene State to 11-5. WSC goaltender Alisha Bates (Palmer) made eleven saves in net for the Lancers while her counterpart , Caitlin Baril (Mansfield, MA), for Keene State saved twelve Lancer shots. The Worcester State field hockey team will return to action on Wednesday when they host Trinity College.
