Head Coach: Julie Flaherty
Coach Flaherty began as the head coach for the Worcester State Lancer Cheerleaders in the fall of 2002.  She has over 15 years of coaching experience and has coached on the high school, collegiate, and professional level.  Flaherty attended the University of Massachusetts-Dartmouth from 1990 – 1994 where she earned a Bachelors Degree in psychology.  She earned a Masters degree in the field of education from Worcester State College in 2003.

Flaherty cheered for the UMass-Dartmouth Corsairs from 1990 – 1994 and throughout her college career worked as a cheerleading instructor for the New England Cheerleaders Association, Inc.  In 1994 she became a camp director for the company and worked to train incoming staff, a position which she still holds today.  In 2001 Flaherty was promoted to vice president of the New England Cheerleaders Association where she is responsible for the direction of both resident and private camps.

From 1997 - 2001 Flaherty was the head coach for the Foxboro High School Warriors.  Under her direction, the team earned a regional championship and qualified for two state championship titles.

In 2008 Coach Flaherty brought the Worcester State Cheerleaders to NCA College Nationals for the first time in the schools’ history.  Here she gained national recognition for the WSC program and revealed her cheerleading team to be “up and coming” competitors for the future.  Flaherty promotes a competitive spirit in her athletes and strives to create an atmosphere where teamwork and respect is a top priority.

Assistant Coach: Amanda Oleson

Coach Oleson began as the assistant coach for the Worcester State Lancer Cheerleaders in fall of 2006.  Oleson attended Worcester State College from 2001-2005 where she earned a Bachelor’s Degree in psychology.

Oleson started her dance career at the early age of 3 for LJF dance studio in Worcester and spent the past two years as a professional dance instructor. She began her cheerleading career at the age of 8 for Pop Warner in Auburn the first year it was offered.  She went on to become Captain of the Auburn Rockets and later Captain of the Worcester State Lancers her Junior and Senior years.  During that time, Oleson also worked as a cheerleading instructor for the New England Cheerleaders Association.  There she trained and coached at both resident and private camps.

Along with her courses and leadership role as Captain at Worcester State, Oleson was also very involved on campus, and was elected the Treasurer of the class of 2005.

As a recent alum of Worcester State College, Oleson knows the importance of balancing academic and athletic achievement, school involvement and work.  She hopes to use this knowledge to help with the growth of the strong and spirited competitive program that Coach Flaherty has created at Worcester State College.
