Buzzards Bay, MA
- An RBI double by Rob Weber (Norwell) broke a 5-5 tie in the bottom
of the seventh Sunday to give Massachusetts Maritime Academy a
doubleheader sweep over Worcester State College by scores of 3-2 and
6-5. A.J. Garstang (Southington, CT) got the job done in the opener
for the Bucs with a game winning sacrifice fly in the bottom of the
seventh to score Weber.
Senior Billy Martin (Virginia Beach, VA) got the game one start for the Bucs delivering a complete game victory. Martin allowed two runs on six hits in his seven innings of work, while striking out six. Joey Lucier (Brockton) went six innings for the Lancers in the losing effort.
MMA trailed 2-1 entering the final frame of the opener, but managed to tie the score when Will Rodriguez (Lowell) doubled, moved to third on a single by Joe Albano (Agawam) and scored on a wild pitch. Albano later came around to score on Garstang's sacrifice fly.
WSC scored first in the second game, pushing two runs across in the
top of the third. The Bucs answered with five runs in the bottom of
the frame to take a 5-2 lead. Two more WSC runs in the fourth
brought the Lancers to within a run, which they tacked on in the top
of the seventh.
The Bucs completed the two-game sweep with Webers RBI double in the
bottom of the frame for a 6-5 victory.
Sophomore David Hike (Riverview, FL) picked up the win in game two
with a seven inning effort. Hike allowed five earned runs on 10
hits, while striking out three.
The victory boosts the Buccaneers to 12-6 overall and 2-2 in the
