takes two from Mass. Maritime 6-1, 4-3
Mass. Maritime Academy scored three first-inning runs in the second
game of a Mass. State College Athletic Conference (MASCAC)
doubleheader, but Worcester State crept back in with solo runs in
the second and fourth and tied it 3-3 with a run in the bottom of
the seventh. Worcester was the home team in Buzzards Bay as the game
was originally scheduled at Worcester.
In the bottom of the ninth (scheduled seven-inning game) Chris Gusha
singled and Kirk Monbleau sacrificed him to second. Gusha advanced
to third on a ground-out and Mason Poce plated Gusha for the
game-winner.
In the first game the Lancers broke a 1-1 tie with three runs in the
bottom of the fourth and added two more in the fifth on the way to a
6-1 win. Worcester State goes to 8-9 with the sweep (3-1 MASCAC) and
MMA falls to 5-6 (0-4).
Alex Foley was 3-for-3 with a run scored in the first game. Brad Musk went 2-for-2 for the Bucs in the nightcap. Billy Martin took the first game loss for MMA and David Hike was the second game pitcher of record for the Bucs.
