Worcester State Bests UMass-Boston, 15-10

Worcester, MA - The Worcester State Lancer baseball team continued their offensive onslaught Thursday afternoon as they scored double-digit runs for the third consecutive game in a 15-10 win over the Beacons of UMass-Boston in a game played at Assumption College. The Lancers improved to 13-6 on the season, while the Beacons drop to 10-8.

The Lancers pounded out 19 hits on the afternoon. Freshman Tom Shea (Worcester, MA) led the way going a perfect 4 for 4, homering in the 4th inning, and scoring and driving in three runs. Shortstop Bear Dunn (Charlton, MA) went 3-4 with 3 RBI and also hit a homerun. Designated Hitter Al Robillard (Webster, MA) went 2-4 and drove in 3 runs on the day.

Junior Luke Perec (Worcester, MA) improved his record to 2-0 on the season as he went six strong innings scattering 7 hits and striking out five Beacons.

UMass-Boston had 12 hits on the day and knocked four Lancer pitches out of the park. Freshman Pat Donovan (Lowell, MA) hit two homeruns and drove in 4 runs. Jon Tekela (Thornhill, ONT) and Mike Yagmin (New Britain, CT) also hit shots for UMass-Boston.

Sophomore Ryan Blanchard (Gloucester, MA) took the loss for the Beacons.

Worcester State returns to conference action this weekend as they travel to Buzzards Bay to take on the Buccaneers of Massachusetts Maritime in a doubleheader. UMass-Boston will next take to the diamond on Saturday when they play UMass-Dartmouth at Babson College.
