Lancers Outhit Endicott, 11-6 For Immediate Release: 4/6/04 Contact: John Meany (508) 929-8730 Worcester, MA - Behind a 17-hit attack on a windy day in Worcester, the Worcester State College Lancers baseball team knocked off the Gulls of Endicott College, 11-6, in a game played on the turf of Clark University. The win improves the Lancers to 11-6 on the year, while Endicott falls to 6-10. Worcester State scored runs in each of the first 5 innings breaking the game open with a 2 out, 5-run outburst in the third inning highlighted by 2-run homerun by freshman Kyle Oksanish (S. Grafton, MA). After Worcester State scored an unearned run in the first and another single run in the 2nd inning on a Pat Welch (Dracut, MA) RBI single, Endicott battled back in the top of the 3rd. After Stephen Vidmosko (Shelton, CT) reached on a fielder’s choice, Dave Babiarz (Peabody, MA) tripled home the Gulls first run and subsequently scored on a groundout to even the score at 2-2. The Lancers went to work in the bottom of the third. After the first two batters were retired, Bear Dunn (Charlton, MA) walked and Dan Walker (Templeton, MA) doubled Dunn home. Third baseman Zac Attaway (Hudson, MA) singled home Walker to give the Lancers a 4-2 lead. Kyle Oksanish followed with his 2-run blast to extend the margin to 6-2. Freshman Tom Shea (Worcester, MA) followed Oksanish with a triple and scored on another Pat Welch RBI single. The teams traded runs in the 4th inning. Peter Norke (Wallingford, CT) led off the inning with a blast to left center. Worcester State countered with a Bobby Montalto (Hudson, MA) RBI single driving in Kirk Russell (Charlton, MA) who doubled to lead off the inning. The Lancers were able to add two more runs in the bottom of the 5th as Welch and Montalto both drove in runs with singles. In the top of the 7th, Endicott closed the Lancer lead to 10-6 as Babiarz, who fell a double short of hitting for the cycle, hit a three-run homer. The Lancers added an insurance run in the as Attaway drove in Dunn who had doubled earlier in the inning. Cean Oksanish (S. Grafton) got the win for Worcester State as he improved to 3-0 on the season. Oksanish gave up 3 earned runs on 10 hits while striking out 5 along the way. Jon Trawt (Beverly, MA) took the loss for the Gulls. Worcester State returns to the diamond when they host Colby Sawyer tomorrow at Worcester Academy. Endicott next plays tomorrow as the play two against Eastern Nazarene.
