Sandra Gentile '76 Sandra Gentile '76 earned 10 varsity letters while playing volleyball, basketball and softball at WSC. She was a captain of the volleyball and basket- ball teams. Sandra was an outstanding defensive player and rebounder and was instrumental in the Lancers winning the Massachusetts State College basketball championship for four straight years. She played softball for three years and had a .372 career batting aver- age and opted to play semi-pro softball for the Waltham Drifters of the Eastern Seaboard League her senior year. Sandra was an assistant volleyball coach at Worcester State in 1976 and also was an assistant basketball coach at St. Peter-Marian the same year. She coached basketball and softball at Holy Cross College from 1979 to 1985. She started the softball program and was instrumental in the program going from Division III to Division I. She was the head women's basketball coach at Worcester State from 1990 through 1994. Her 1990-91 team had an outstanding 19-8 record. Sandra is employed as a manager at Spags Supply, Inc. Francis Joubert '63 Francis Joubert '63 was an outstanding baseball player for the Lancers for four years and was a team captain in 1963. He started every game during his four year career and played every infield position. He finished with a career batting average of .369, which was the school record at that time. Frank hit a lofty .469 in 1961, seventh best all time for a single season, and is ranked 13th all time for career batting averages. He was treasurer of the Men's Athletic Association at Worcester State. Frank has been a coach since graduating in 1963. He coached at Marlborough Junior High for two years and his teams had an undefeated season in both baseball and football. From the Junior High, Frank moved to the Senior High School as an assistant coach in basketball, baseball and football for four years. He was an umpire and member of the Worcester Area Baseball Umpire's Association for 13 years. Franks has been coaching and teaching science at Westboro Junior High, now the Gibbons Middle School, since 1978. Frank started the girl's basketball team and has compiled a 249-60 record, with four undefeated seasons! The team is currently on a 53-game winning streak. Gary Jusseaume ‘73 Gary Jusseaume '73 was outstanding in cross-country and both indoor and outdoor track for the Lancers. He was a captain of all three teams. While he was a member of the track team, he established records in the 880, mile, the 4 x 440 relay, distance medley relay, sprint medley relay and was a member of the 4 x 100 relay team which set the record of 43.3 in 1971. The record still stands today! He participated in two outdoor track NCAA track and field champion- ships and was also selected to several Massachusetts State College Conference all star teams for cross country and track. He was the head coach of cross country and track at Marlborough High School for three years and was the head coach at Assumption College in both sports from 1975 to 1981 and his teams at Assumption competed in the NCAA II National Championships in both sports. He is currently the head coach of track at Maynard High School where he is employed as a teacher of English and writing. He was the head coach of the National Youth Games track team in Kingston, Jamaica in 1980. Joan O'Donnell '87 Joan O'Donnell '87 was an outstanding basketball and softball player for Worcester State. She was a key player on the Lancers team, which won the 1980 National AIAW Division III Championship in basketball. She was the high scorer in the semi-final and championship game when she scored 22 points. Joan scored 659 points in two years to help the team win the Massachusetts State College, the Division II MAIAW, the Division III EAIAW Regional Championships both years. In 1981, the Lancers finished third in the nation in the Division III AIAW Championships. She is the College's second all-time free throw percentage shooter hitting 113 of 156 attempts for a 72.4 percentage. She played on two softball teams that compiled a 30-13 record. She continues to play basketball and has competed in the Greenwood Park Summer League for 29 years. She is employed in production planning at Reed-Rico Manufacturing Co. in Holden and is also employed as a physical therapist assistant. James Quinn '84 James Quinn '84 was an outstanding baseball player for the Lancers from 1981 to 1984 and finished his career with a .405 batting average, fifth best in Lancer baseball history. He also played tennis in 1984. Quinn was a captain of the baseball teams in 1982, 1983, and 1984 and twice was selected to play in the All New England baseball games at Fenway Park in 1983 and 1984. He was selected second team All New England in 1983 and was selected All New England first team in 1984. He was also selected to the Converse All Star team in 1984. Jim hit .420 in 1983 and led his team to an excellent 15-8-1 record and a NCAA playoff game at Ithaca College. He coached a Florida High School team to the state championship finals in 1989. Jim is employed as a deputy sheriff in the Saratoga County Sheriff's Office. |
