Donald Bergan '75 Donald Bergen '75, your accomplishments and dedication to cross country and track are legendary in Worcester State College athletic annuals for not only did you gain individual fame but you also provided inspiration and leadership to your teammates and the athletes you have coached over the years. You were a four-year member of the cross country and track teams and your leadership qualities were recognized by your selection as a captain of both teams in your senior year. While at Worcester State you established College records in the one mile, two mile and three mile events and were a member of the two mile relay team. You established the cross country course record. You were the 1974 NAIA mile regional champion and you won numerous track and cross country events during your four-year tenure at Worcester State. You attended the ROTC Program at Holy Cross College and you were commissioned as a United States Air Force Officer in 1975 and will retire from the Air Force in 1995 after having served for 20 years. You are an experienced multi-sport athlete with over 27 years of competitive running at high school, college and post college competitions. You coached at various high schools and Air Force cross country and track teams and your skill at motivating individuals to strive to reach new personal goals through discipline and consistency in training is well documented. As an individual, you competed at numerous NAlA, NCM, National and World Championships. You continue to compete today and have won numerous master races during 1994. Your self proclaimed goal during 1994 is to qualify for the United State Duathlon Team and compete at the National and World Championships. You are currently a United States Air Force Officer and reside in Universal City, Texas. Donald Bergan, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame. Michael Correa '73 Michael Correa '73, your accomplishments and dedication to ice hockey are well documented and you were a key player on teams that recorded some of the most memorable seasons in Worcester State College history. You were a four-year veteran and finished your career as the College's fourth all time leading scorer with 77 goals and 71 assists for 148 points and you also hold the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) record for the fastest hat trick when you scored three goals in just 48 seconds against Bridgewater State during the 1971-72 season. You had back to back 49 point seasons as a sophomore and a junior as you scored 26 goals and had 23 assists in each of those seasons. You were also a member of the team that fired a record 101 shots which resulted in 48 points on 17 goals and 31 assists against the North Adams State goalie during the 1971-72 season. You were a member of Lancers teams that had a 55-24-2 record, a .688 winning percentage over four years and you also played on the team in 1971-72 that had a 21-3 record, the best ever in Lancer hockey history. You hold the school record of seven assists in one game against Fitchburg State. You were named to the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities during your undergraduate days at Worcester State. You carried your playing skills over into the coaching ranks and have served as a hockey and volleyball coach at Hudson High School and Nichols College in hockey as well as being the baseball coach at the JFK School in Hudson. You are an avid sailor and won the 1986 Provincetown Yacht Club race. You have also been a director of the West End Racing Club Sailing School in Provincetown for five years. You are currently a teacher at the JFK School in Hudson. Michael Correa, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame. Patricia Ethier Marois '77 Patricia Ethier Marois '77, your talent, drive and determination help. make you one of the most outstanding women's tennis players in Worcester State College athletic history. You showed your relentless desire to perform to the best of your ability while spearheading your teams to some outstanding seasons. Your leader- ship qualities were evident and you were selected a team captain in your junior and senior years. You were also a cheerleader for four years and captain of that squad for two years. You played in the three position in your freshman year and went undefeated, the two position as a sophomore and were the number one player in your junior and senior years. As a sophomore, you reached the finals of the Massachusetts State College Tennis Tournament and twice during your career you were selected to participate in the New England College Tennis Tournament. You compiled an outstanding 50-10 record during your career, an outstanding .833 winning percentage. Your talent and leadership qualities were not confined to the tennis court. You were honored for your undergraduate achievements by selection to the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. You were a class officer for two years and were Dean's list student for all four years graduating Cum- Laude. You also painted your class' winter carnival mural for four years, winning first place three times and finishing second once. You are a member of the tennis playing Ethier clan that represented Worcester State so well and your brothers, Joe, Jack, Tim and Mike all played for the Lancers and were captains of their teams. Your brother, Jack, was inducted in the Hall of Fame last year. You are employed in a family owned credit agency. Patricia Ethier Marois, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame. Dr. Reza Namin '82 Dr. Reza Namin '82, you were an outstanding soccer player and you are still the all time leading scorer in Worcester State College soccer history and were instrumental in leading your team to the College's only appearance in the National NCAA Division III tournament in 1982 and the Massachusetts State College Championship title. You were a four-year veteran who scored 60 career goals and had 17 assists for a school record 77 points. Your leadership and work ethics were evident as you were selected a captain of your team three times. Lancers teams had an excellent 37 -22 record while you were playing, including an amazing 14-1-1 overall record in 1982. You were selected an All New England All Star and a second team All- American. You were also selected a Massachusetts State College Conference (MASCAC) and a Bay State All Star. You were drafted by Dallas of the Major Indoor Soccer League and played professional soccer for Boston and Hudson in the Division I League. Your leadership qualities were evident as you were elected as President of the International Student Organization, Third World Alliance and a member of the Student Academic Advisory Board during your undergraduate days at Worcester Sate. You have also influenced many other student-athletes and you helped organize and were the first head coach of the Worcester State Women's Soccer team. You later served as the head coach of the Holy Cross College Women's Soccer team and were selected the New England Division Coach of the Year in 1991. You also were the head coach at Shrewsbury High School. You are currently the chairman of the Science Department at St. Raphael Academy in Pawtucket, Rhode Island. Dr. Reza Namin, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame. Joan Bromley Siska '74 Joan Bromlay Siska '74, your exceptional athletic ability and competitive spirit have distinguished you as one of the most versatile athletes to ever wear a Worcester State uniform. You were outstanding while playing three sports, basketball, softball and field hockey while earning eight varsity letters. Your leadership qualities were recognized as you were selected a captain of both the basketball and softball teams. You scored 845 career points in basketball and scored a game high 31 points against Fitchburg State, third best in Worcester State, history. You established the school record at that time hitting 14 straight free throws and held the school record for best free throw percentage in a season in 1972-73 at 78 percent and the career percentage record at 74.6 percent. Not only were you a scorer but you contributed to the team's success in many other ways. You were selected the most valuable player of the Massachusetts State College Tournament in 1970-71. You were a pitcher in softball and also played third-base and left field. You played right wing for the field hockey team for one season. You were honored during your undergraduate days by your selection to the Who's Who in American Colleges and Universities. Your leadership qualities continued as you went on to coach the Sutton. High School basketball teams for 12 years and compiled a .627 winning percentage as a coach. You also coached softball for five years and field hockey for three years at Sutton. You are currently an adaptive physical education teacher in the Mendon-Upton School District working with visually impaired and special needs students. Joan Bromley Siska, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame. Margaret "Peg" Nugent '59 Margaret "Peg" Nugent '59, you established the Women's Varsity Intercollegiate Athletic Program at Worcester State College and you were the coordinator of women's athletics from 1968 through 1980 and were also a coach for many years. It was your knowledge and leadership which set the foundation for what the women's athletic programs are today. You coached the women's volleyball team from 1968 to 1974 and the women's tennis team from 1968 to 1984. Your teams won the Massachusetts State College volleyball titles in 1968 and 1973 and your tennis team won the MASCAC title in 1984 as well as the MAIAW tennis title in 1975. Your tennis teams qualified for the MAIAW Tournament every year from 1974 through 1983 and at least eight players were invited to participate in the All New England Tennis Tournament. You were a charter member of the MAIAW organization and were an executive board member as well as president of that organization. You were chairperson for the Massachusetts College of Athletics for Women in the early 1970's. You were also chairperson of the Women's Physical Education Department at Worcester State College from 1968 to 1981. You received your M.Ed. degree from Worcester State College in 1959 and have been a professor at Worcester State for 30 years and were employed by the Worcester Public School System for 10 years. You also worked at the Worcester State College academic advising center for 11 years. You continue to teach in the physical education department at Worcester State today and you have touched the lives of many student-athletes, both men and women throughout the years. Margaret Nugent, it is with great pride that we induct you into the Worcester State College Athletic Hall of Fame.
